I withered whenever I saw a withered a plant” (“Vadiya payirai kanda pothellam vadinaen”) these were the words of Saint Ramalingaswamy (of 19th century) whose love and compassion to all forms of life was to such an extent that he literally experienced the joys and sorrows of others like a few such perfected beings.
To understand that we evolve from the lowest forms of life to man over countless births we should take to heart the words of Saint Manickavasagar(5th century A.D.) in his ‘Thiruvasagam’: “I have taken birth in all forms of lives … from a blade of grass …to titans and gods …” And Lord Buddha is said to have recollected in a flash 400 of his past lives when he attained enlightenment. The life of a deer, a snake, an eagle ..! This would literally mean that killing any form of life would be like killing our own brothers and sisters, our own children and grandchildren! And ‘Amma Sanctuary’ is going to be an example of compassionate living to the world by promoting vegetarianism and preventing the slaughter of faithful bulls and cows which had served mankind all their lives.
The sanctuary would be a contented resting place for these peaceful animals, living a life of care and tenderness
